The Six Days of Christmas Songs!

I LOVE to sing! Last night I was singing some of my favorite Christmas hymns and realized that there are only six days left to sing them! What?! A disgrace!!!!!!!! So I decided that I would share my top six Christmas hymns AND my top six Primary Christmas songs to maybe help slow down the rapid approach of the end of the 2015 Christmas Season. (That was a very long sentence!) There are a ton of great songs, so it was a hard choice! But here are the Day 6 picks:

The HYMN:

JOY to the WORLD
Joy to the world, the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King!
Let ev'ry heart prepare him room,
And Saints and angels sing,
And Saints and angels sing,

And Saints, and Saints and angels sing.

Rejoice! Rejoice when Jesus reigns,
And Saints their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more will sin and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He'll come and make the blessings flow
Far as the curse was found,
Far as the curse was found,
Far as, far as the curse was found.

Rejoice! Rejoice in the Most High,
While Israel spreads abroad
Like stars that glitter in the sky,
And ever worship God,
And ever worship God,
And ever, and ever worship God.

I love this song! It's all about JOY and REJOICING!!! (Coincidentally, so is the Church's new Christmas video: #ASaviorIsBorn which is amazing and makes you really want to rejoice!) I love the principle of rejoicing and I think there may possibly be a blog post in the works on that topic!!  The Lord IS come and we can REJOICE in it!!!!!!

The CHILDREN'S SONG:

Stars Were Gleaming
Stars were gleaming, shepherds dreaming;
And the night was dark and chill.
Angels' story rang with glory;
Shepherds heard it on the hill.
Ah, that singing! Hear it ringing,
Earthward winging, Christmas bringing!

Hearken! We can hear it still!

See the clearness and the nearness
Of the blessed Christmas star,
Leading, guiding; wise men riding
Through the desert dark and far.
Lovely showing, shining, growing,
Onward going, gleaming, glowing,
Leading still, our Christmas star!

The anticipation of Christmas seems to be perfectly expressed in this song! If you listen to this song, when it gets to the last three lines, the music builds up, along with the words, to create a beautiful effect! The anticipation ends, however, not at the ripping open of gifts or enjoying your stocking, but instead at the center of Christmas--Christ. It blends that first Christmas night perfectly with our present day, transporting us back in time and the Nativity forward.

I hope you have enjoyed my Day 6 Picks! Stay tuned for Days 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1!!

Also, if you want more Christmas Countdowns, here's one for you: The 12 Days of Social (Click on 'Celebrating Christ' on the bar at the top). I know it's over, but watch two videos a day and you'll be on time for Christmas!
